All of these tracks have a combination of qualities that make them memorable. Enjoy the fun of "Take Off" and its STAR WARS influenced first break. This particular mix of "I Can Fly" with its castanets-a-plenty, was actually dedicated to The Saint. When "Can We Try Again" first came out in 1983, it stood alone as a perfect Disco to dance music crossover song. (Remember, by the early 1980s, Disco was supposed to be "dead"). Both Hit List and Blancmange are examples of why '80s dance music was able to find and sustain a following.
When Stan Bronstein, co-author of "Manhattan Shuffle", first heard From East to West by Voyage, he wondered why his favorite exotic location was not mentioned - Manhattan. He sat down and banged out "Manhattan Shuffle" on a 31 note piano in an unheated loft on west 30th street. Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., sound familiar? They are two-fifths of the 5th Dimension. Who better to record a showstopper? "Souvenirs" and "Love is in the Air" are disco standards. To this day, they each can still be heard on late night radio dance parties, where they still generate excitement. Excitement anyone? How about SHOWSTOPPERS. |
